
About Najmul Haque Kawsar
Najmul is an Islamic finance and strategy consultant at DinarStandard with more than 10 years’ experience in financial sector development, innovation and research. He advises on growth strategy, halal economy strategy and ecosystem-building projects for entities across the Islamic Development Bank Group and the wider Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) landscape, including the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC), the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), as well as leading GCC sovereign wealth fund–owned entities.
At DinarStandard, he has served as lead analyst for an OIC-wide Business Intelligence Centre initiative on business and credit intelligence infrastructure; Annual Reports and Annual Development Reports for a multilateral export credit agency; supporting a ten-year strategy framework for a multilateral development bank, among others. He has also been the lead author of the firm’s flagship State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) and Global Islamic Fintech (GIFT) reports, and has led or supported halal strategy development and execution for governments and corporates across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), South-East Asia (SEA) and Africa.
He is a member of the Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) working groups on Smart Contracts and Cryptocurrencies, an Associate Member of the Association of Shariah Advisors (ASAS), Malaysia, and an adjunct faculty member at United International University (UIU), Dhaka. He received specialised training in sukuk structuring and issuance from the multilateral International Islamic Liquidity Management (IILM) Corporation and has published in Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) and Scopus-indexed, A-ranked journals rated by the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC). He is proficient in English, Arabic and Bengali, and collaborates with the International Shariah Research Academy (ISRA), Malaysia, as part of its translation team.
Najmul holds an MSc in Islamic Finance (majoring in capital markets) from the AACSB-accredited International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF University), as well as Masters and Bachelors degrees in Shariah from Dhaka. He is an AAOIFI Certified Shariah Advisor & Auditor (CSAA) and Certified Islamic Professional Accountant (CIPA), and is currently awaiting his viva voce for a PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM).
He is actively engaged in thought leadership and capacity-building on Islamic fintech, digital trade and Islamic economy policy, regularly contributing as a speaker and expert reviewer for industry forums, training programmes and knowledge platforms.
