Mr. Rafiq Hariri, owner of construction giant Saudi Oger Ltd. was assassinated by a massive car bomb.  He was the former prime minister of Lebanon and dubbed as the father of Lebanon`s post-war reconstruction. He and his family are worth $4.3 billion, Forbes magazine said last year.

Gulf Air's innovative Sky Nanny service won the 2004 Gulf Marketing Review, Marketing Effectiveness Awards in the Best New Product launch category.

Emaar Properties' Chairman Mohammad Alabbar has offered to buy all homes evacuated by Jewish settlers in the Gaza Strip. Israeli media reported he has offered to pay $56m for the 21 settlements, earmarked for evacuation this year.

Sugar King Robert Kuok Hock Nien (wealth of RM16.96 billion) was ranked as the richest Malaysian by Malaysian Business magazine's 40 Richest Malaysians for 2005 ranking. Berjaya Group's Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun was placed 13th with RM842.54 million. 16th place was YTL Group's Tan Sri Francis Yeoh Sock Ping RM649.26.

PT Bank Central Asia, Indonesia's second-largest lender, reported 32% jump in 2004 unaudited net profit to IDR3.15 trillion (US$340 million) from IDR2.39 trillion in the previous year, driven by an increase in net interest income which climbed 28% from year before.

Major Iranian carmakers Iran Khodro and Saipa have reached an agreement with France's auto giant Renault to produce L90 budget sedans in Iran. Iranian side would produce 50% of the parts in the first phase of the project, which begins in 2006.

THE proposed Iran-India gas pipeline is moving forward . The Indian gas major Gail (India), signed two agreements with Iran's National Petrochemical Company and National Iranian Oil Company for taking up joint feasibility studies to set up petrochemical units based on the gas of the south Pars zone in Iran.

Telekom Malaysia's wholly-owned subsidiary, TM International Limited, has signed an agreement to acquire a 78 per cent stake in Multinet Pakistan (Private) Limited.

Emaar Properties and AMLAK Finance announced the launch of an independent financial services joint venture company, Emaar Financial Services (Emaar FS), which will offer comprehensive brokerage services, investment research and analysis to individual investors, companies and institutions.

KazMunayGas, a state-owned company of Kazakhstan and India's ONGC Videsh Ltd. agreed to set up a Joint Working Group on Hydrocarbons to examine and develop various prospects for cooperation.

PETRONAS Gas Bhd, a public-listed subsidiary of Petroliam Nasional Bhd, has posted a sharp jump in profit to RM208.9 million in its third quarter ended December 31 2004 from RM138.8 million in the previous corresponding period.

Telekom Malaysia Bhd is to recieve Overall Best Corporate Governance honor in Asiamoney Annual Awards to be presented in Kuala Lumpur later this month. It also took the Most Improved Investor Relations award together with Malaysian Airline System Bhd (MAS) and Tenaga Nasional Bhd.
