The manufacturing sector accounts for around 18% of GDP and employs some 20% of the workforce. Activity is largely concentrated in the Casablanca region.

The French engineering company Teuchos, a subsidiary of the Safran Group, specializing in aerospace, transport and communications opened an aeronautics and space research center recently in Casablanca.  Global hotel group Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts, as part of its worldwide expansion, with 22 new properties located throughout Europe, the Americas, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and Africa includes in its plans the 21 storey, 300 room Le Meridien Marhaba in Casablanca for the second quarter of 2006.  In September of this year the world's largest paper and forest products company, International Paper, announced that it signed an agreement to acquire a majority share in "Compagnie Marocaine des Cartons et des Papiers" Morocco's leading corrugated and packaging company which is based in Casablanca.

The Casablanca Stock Exchange infrastructure has been modernized in the recent past.  The stock market watchdog, the Conseil déontologique des valeurs mobilières (CDVM), strives to improve transparency of information and crack down on bourse members that breach the rules.  Last year, the Casablanca Stock Exchange returned just 15% on the year.
