Profile

Jeddah is the traditional trading hub of Saudi Arabia.  It has a substantial financial-services sector and hosts much of the insurance business as well as one of the largest banks in asset terms, National Commercial Bank (NCB).  The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry is one of the most important regional chambers overseeing business activities in its vicinity.

It is also home to 2 of a number of industrial zones created by the Saudi government where land in the zones is available at nominal rent, and plant sites are connected to utilities.  Jeddah is also home to the Islamic Development Bank.

Amr Al-Dabbagh, the governor of the Jeddah-based Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority, recently concluded a tour of the United States where he met with policy and decision makers, high-level executives and attended economic and investment related forums. SAGIA's goal is to promote the inward flow of investments into four sectors: Energy, transportation, knowledge-based industries and information and communication technology.  The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently held a 'Pakistan specific week catalog show' in which Pakistan was showcased as a country of opportunities for Saudi investment as it offers a "very liberal, conducive and profit earning" environment.
