Rafi-uddin Shikoh is passionate about empowering businesses to become global brands with socially responsible impact. He is leading the development of DinarStandard™, having 15 years of marketing strategy, e-business strategy, and technology management experience with small to Fortune 500 ranked companies. Rafi-uddin is a frequent speaker on innovation, marketing, social business, and Muslim customer strategies. He has presented at prestigious industry conferences at Oxford University, Harvard University, IIUM Malaysia and others. As an emerging expert on Muslim markets, he has been interviewed in media outlets including The Economist, Forbes, LA Times, BrandChannel, Arab News (Saudi Arabia), Khaleej Times, Sabah (Turkey), Star (Malaysia), and Geo TV (Pakistan), among many more.

Prior to DinarStandard, Rafi-uddin had been a vice president with Marsh Inc., a global risk-brokerage firm, where he led and successfully delivered multi-million dollar knowledge management and marketing technology related initiatives. He had previously served as a senior e-business consultant at a Boston based firm. In addition, he has also served as a marketing director for a communications training and sports media consulting company.

Rafi-uddin has an MBA from UNC-Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, and a BSc. in marketing from Southwest State University, Minnesota, USA. He was born in Pakistan and spent 14 years of his early schooling in the Sultanate of Oman.

Haroon is a Director at DinarStandard, and is responsible for leading and managing market intelligence and insights, managing the execution of select investment/growth strategy consulting engagements, and for business development at the firm.Prior to joining DinarStandard, Haroon was a strategy consultant at L.E.K. Consulting in Boston, where he managed 11 commercial due diligence and strategy cases across various sectors, including retail, consumer, healthcare, hospitality and aviation. Haroon has also worked with venture capital advisory firms in London and New York, helping three startups raise venture funding, and assisting three corporate clients in launching new ventures.Haroon started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in London, where he audited several public UK companies in the Consumer, Retail and Industrial Products space. He transitioned to the transaction services team after three years, providing financial due diligence support to Private Equity firms on 12 European acquisitions.Haroon has an MBA with Distinction from Cornell University and a Masters’ in Economics from the London School of Economics. He earned his BA in Economics from the University of Manchester and he is also a UK-qualified Chartered Accountant.
Haroon is very passionate about helping investors identify lucrative opportunities across the Islamic economies and global ethical markets.


Reem El Shafaki

Reem El Shafaki brings solid hands-on marketing management experience across diverse industries in companies in the US and the Middle East as well as a multi-cultural background and knowledge of diverse cultures. As Senior Associate at DinarStandard, Reem conducts research, develops marketing and business plans, and executes marketing campaigns for companies targeting the halal lifestyle market. Recent projects include developing a marketing plan and executing the marketing campaign for a global travel portal entering the US market, and implementing and developing the business plan for a pan-Arab TV channel.

Reem spoke about the Muslim travel market at ITB Berlin, the world’s largest tourism trade fair; at the American Hotel & Motel Association’s 2012 Fall Conference; as well as at an event organized by USAID/Jordan Tourism Development Project in Amman. Reem also spoke about the US Muslim consumer market at a New York University course called: Ethnic Marketing: How to Target the Multicultural Consumer.

Originally from Egypt, Reem is bi-lingual in both English and Arabic and brings solid hands-on marketing management experience across diverse industries in the US and the Middle East. Reem holds the CIM Advanced Marketing Certificate from the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the UK.

Yasir Malik

Yasir Malik is a Senior Analyst at DinarStandard and is responsible for conducting market research, analysis, and business development initiatives.

Prior to joining DinarStandard, Yasir was a Senior Consultant in the Corporate Real Estate Advisory Services practice at Ernst & Young LLP and primarily focused on real estate portfolio strategy, location advisory, organizational design and analysis engagements. Yasir has also interned at Arcem Capital, a U.S. hedge fund, and in the Private Wealth Management Department at Bank of America. He also has substantial experience working with non-profits.
Yasir graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics at New York University and is passionate about helping innovative leading businesses emerge in the high potential Digital Islamic Economy.


Iman Kouvalis

Iman Kouvalis is an international strategy and business foresight consultant and a United Nations volunteer specializing in socio-economic development. Her recent work involved driving a comprehensive 15-year strategic road-map report for the  American Muslim community. She has 14 years of experience in growth strategies, business foresight and sustainable competitive advantage in disruptive environments in North America, Europe and the Middle East.

She has developed business and marketing research plans for investments up to $2 billion, including for the royal family of a Gulf State and an organization funded by the Bill Gates Foundation. Previously, she worked as a project engineer for Ford Motor Company. Iman is a former national Board Director of Strategic Planning for the Muslim Association of Greece, where she collaborated with the government on national immigration, education and faith issues.

Iman holds an MBA with a specialization in Strategic Planning from Edinburgh Business School, Scotland and a B.A. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Windsor, Canada along with certification as a coach and has extensive training in MBTI type indicators. She is currently pursuing a post-graduate certificate in Strategic Foresight from the University of Houston.


Francis Dur

Francis Dur is an Associate of DinarStandard bringing with him years of consulting experience both in the U.S. and Qatar. Prior to joining DinarStandard, Francis worked at a boutique litigation and management consulting firm assisting clients such as Barclays, Halliburton, the SEC, KPMG, and DHL in complex financial and economic matters. He has worked on projects involving the analysis and valuation of municipal assets, investment portfolios and other assets.  Since joining DinarStandard he was the lead research analyst on the State of the Global Islamic Economy Report (2013) as well as worked on a variety of projects for GCC/MENA governments and investment banks. Francis holds a BBA in Finance and a BA in Arabic language and literature from the University of Texas at Austin. Raised in Qatar, he is Peruvian-American and speaks Spanish and Arabic and has a working knowledge of French which has served him in assisting clients and developing businesses in both Europe and the Middle East.  Francis is currently enrolled in Ethica’s CIFE course to be certified in Islamic Finance.

Afia Fitriati serves as DinarStandard’s Indonesia and halal lifestyle marketing strategy Research Associate.  Afia is also currently a columnist and staff writer for a Muslim lifestyle magazine, Aquila Style Magazine.  She is a contributor to the Journal of Islamic Marketing (JIMA).  Previously she has served as a lecturer on Islamic marketing, at Paramadina Graduate School and is currently a Member of the Advisory Board of Paramadina Islamic Management Institute.  Afia has an MBA from Nanyang Technological University and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in marketing, management and MIS from Syracuse University.

Yakup serves as DinarStandard’s Turkey and Central Asia market Research Associate.   Yakup is a business editor at Yeni Safak.  He has previously worked at Turkapital Holding (Islamic private equity) as well as at Bim Birlesik Magazalar (the largest discount retailer in Turkey.)   His recent DinarStandard projects have included contributing to market studies relating to the Turkish tourism sector as well as the Hajj and Umrah markets.  Yakup has an MBA from Marmara University.

Fe Jazzareen is CEO of PERSIS Management and Program Director for Halal AQL based in Malaysia.  As a DinarStandard Associate, she focuses on Malaysia/ Singapore and halal food sectors.   With over 16 years of work experience, Fe brings a rich background as a halal industry technical manager with expertise in training, auditing and supply chain assessment.  She has also been involved in government-level initiatives in technical, business and strategy related areas including the development of halal parks, RFID/traceability and human capital development.  Fe graduated from the National University of Malaysia with a BSc (Hons) in applied science, majoring in applied chemistry.


Nahla Mesbah

Nahla Mesbah serves as DinarStandard’s Egypt Research Associate.  Nahla’s recent engagements at DinarStandard have included market research for business/investment plans relating to the Pan-Arab TV channel, a tourism sector opportunity analysis, in addition to research relating to the hajj/umrah markets.  Nahla previously served as a marketing research manager at Dr. Ibrahim Hegazy and Associates and has been a part-time faculty member at the American University in Cairo and Misr International University.  Nahla has an MA in comparative politics from the American University in Cairo.

Shafeeq Rahman

Shafeeq Rahman, a Ph.D  candidate and post graduate in economics and Islamic studies, has more than nine years of extensive research experience in India-centric socio-economic domains. He owns www.halalinindia.com which is a pioneering portal that provides information about the Indian halal market and India’s bilateral trade and investment relations with OIC countries.  His research based articles related to India’s Muslim and halal markets have frequently been published in national as well as international print and online publications. Shafeeq previously worked as Senior Research Coordinator at  Datanet India.  He is currently completing his PhD from Jamia Millia Islamia, India in Islamic economics.
